Music

St. Paul’s famed tradition of singing builds upon a foundation established in Lower School, extends through the Crusader Choir in Middle School, and culminates in the Upper School where more than one-third of the students sing in one or more choral ensembles. The renowned Concert Chorale performs at historic venues worldwide every other Spring Break, most recently touring Germany and the Czech Republic in 2014. Because singing is an academic subject and meets as part of the curriculum, it never is forced to compete with athletics or other priorities.

The Upper School Jazz Band, directed by renowned saxophonist Carl Grubbs who received his early musical training from the legendary John Coltrane, performs on campus and at various area venues. Instrumental instruction begins in Middle School, with sixth graders building teamwork and rhythm on hand bells, before learning to perform on Caribbean steel drums in grades 7 and 8.

Private instruction in all orchestral instruments is also available to students of all ages.
