News & Announcements

A hallmark of the way St. Paul's prepares its graduates for life in an ever-changing world is the personalized, individual attention that we provide every student throughout their time at the School.
On September 28, St. Paul's celebrated Martin D. "Mitch" Tullai and the 50-plus years he served St. Paul's as a teacher, coach and all-around role model for hundreds of students. The School was delighted to announce the creation of the Martin D. Tullai Scholar-Athlete Scholarship, started in honor of Mr. Tullai by a group of alumni grateful for the impact he has had on their lives.

Head of School Search Update - 9/6/2012
Posted 09/07/2012 08:38AM

Dear St. Paul's School Community:

As part of the Headmaster Search Committee’s ongoing commitment to keep you informed about the search for our new Headmaster, I write to provide a brief update as we begin the 2012-13 school year.  As I mentioned in my prior emails to our community last spring, our search process is essentially divided into three phases: the "Evaluation Phase," during which we hired consultants and gathered information about what we want in our next Headmaster; the "Candidate Solicitation Phase," during which we advertised the position and solicited qualified applicants; and finally the "Selection Phase," which is getting underway now.  During the Selection Phase, we will bring final candidates to campus for interviews, culminating in the Board selecting our next Headmaster.  In other words, we have completed the Evaluation Phase and the Solicitation Phase, and now enter the final part of our process, the Selection Phase.

The Selection Phase will be an exciting, and a very busy time on campus over the next two months and I want to keep our community as informed as possible about the process.  The Headmaster Search Committee encourages the continued involvement of all our constituencies, including students, faculty, parents, alumni and administration/staff.   During the Solicitation Phase we received strong interest from an impressive and qualified candidate pool.  The Search Committee is incredibly grateful to those members of our St. Paul’s community who encouraged and recommended candidates to apply – a huge thanks to you.   The Headmaster Search Committee is in the process of selecting a group of several "semifinalist" candidates who will visit our campus during the last two weeks of September.

During these campus visits, semifinalists will get to know St. Paul’s, and we will get to know them.  Candidates will experience the beauty of our campus and meet with many members of our community.  Candidates will begin their day with a campus tour given by Skip Darrell – an early test of their energy and stamina!  To help us in our search process, we have formed an Advisory Committee comprised of students, faculty, parents, alumni, vestry and a representative from SPSG (interim head Lila Lohr).  It’s a group of about thirty members of our community.  Of course, candidates will also spend time with administrators, staff, trustees, and our Search Committee.

Our "finalist" candidates will return to St. Paul's for two day visits during October, and will have the opportunity to meet with still larger groups of the community.  The selection of our next Headmaster is our process, and we encourage all members of our community to participate.  Our goal is to select our new Headmaster by early November.

As always, your feedback is encouraged and appreciated.

Sincerely,

Louis Sarkes
