A Brief History
Bridges opened in 1993 on the grounds of St. Paul’s School as a two-summer-long enrichment program for 18 elementary school students attending Coldstream Park Elementary, a Title I school in northeast Baltimore. Bridges has evolved since that time to better support student success and expand volunteer opportunities for Independent School students. It now provides an innovative year-round support system that Baltimore City students enter at the end of third grade and participate in through college and beyond. Currently, Bridges operates on the campuses of two independent schools, St. Paul’s School and Gilman School, which provide extensive in-kind support and 180+ high school volunteers throughout the year.
